I was reading Niall Ferguson's recent column imagining a Chinese dominated US and found it a little hard to believe. But it did make me wonder what it would mean for China to "win" -- would it look like the inverse of what you described in this book as they cut us out of a Chinese centric economic system?
It’s great that somebody who knows something finally wrote a book about this! (Or maybe there are other books and I am unaware of them...so it’s great that somebody wrote a book about this that I have heard of.) I suspect this book is going to get talked about a LOT...Unfortunately, if you had made it a nefarious conspiracy people would probably talk about it more! But overall much better that you are not doing that but instead plausibly explaining how things happen (which is of course more useful in concrete terms but maybe less exciting to people rhetorically).
Excellent point of clarification on lack of intentionality and master planning. Yet, realistically, good luck convincing anybody who is on the receiving end of this or who hates this system or its outcomes, and of the lack of its conspiratoriality [sorry if that is not word], a master plan, or a mastermind.
Additionally, to those who would seek to counter or combat the reach and power of the underground empire, does it make any practical difference if it is secret,, centrally directed conspiracy, or an unthinking, unfeeling process of momentum under no one's control? Perhaps the counter-responses might be identical?
